The new HTC Touch HD mobile phone which measures 115 x 62.8 x 12 mm is expected to be available in Q4 2008, but no word yet on pricing.

Windows 7, the next version of Windows after Vista, will be releasing its new beta version in mid December 2008. This has sparked off dicussions among current Windows users of whether Windows 7 will emereged as a better player as compared to Vista.

Bea Balik Nama Kendaraan Naik Jadi 20%
Jakarta - Pemerintah dan DPR sepakat untuk menaikkan tarif maksimal Bea Balik Nama Kendaraan Bermotor (BBNKB) menjadi 20% di dalam RUU Pajak Daerah dan Retribusi Daerah (PDRD). Kebijakan ini dilakukan untuk menjadi instrumen fiskal untuk membatasi jumlah kendaraan bermotor.
Hal tersebut dikatakan oleh Ketua Pansus RUU Pajak Daerah dan Retribusi Daerah (PDRD) Harry Azhar Azis ketika dihubungi wartawan, di Jakarta, Jumat (19/9/2008).
"Tarif maksimal BBNKB naik dari tarif saat ini sebesar 10% menjadi 20% dari harga jual kendaraan bermotor untuk pembelian pertama kali. Sementara tarif BBNKB untuk mobil bekas hanya dikenakan tarif sebesar 1% dari harga jual kendaraan bermotor," tuturnya.
Meski demikian, Harry mengatakan karena BBNKB merupakan wilayah pajak daerah, maka besaran BBNKB di tiap daerah akan tergantung dari peraturan derah (perda) masing-masing.
"Pemda diberi kewenangan untuk penetapan tarif BBNKB antara 0% sampai maksimal 20% tergantung kepadatan kendaraan bermotor di daerahnya. Dan dengan demikian, tarif BBNKB di tiap daerah bisa berbeda-beda," jelasnya.
Harry mengatakan pajak provinsi BBNKB ditetapkan dengan pola tarif tunggal maksimal 20 persen untuk penyerahan pertama dan 1 persen untuk penyerahan berikutnya. "Jadi kalau saya beli mobil baru Rp 100 juta,jadi Rp 120 juta ditambah BBNKB,'' ujarnya.
Diakuinya, kebijakan baru ini dapat mengakibatkan penjualan mobil bekas bisa lebih marak dibanding mobil baru, sehingga pada gilirannya menghambat pertumbuhan jumlah kendaraan bermotor, terutama di kota-kota besar seperti Jakarta.
"Kalau Jakarta, jika ingin menekan penjualan kendaraan supayakemacetan bisa berkurang, pemda DKI Jakarta bisa menerapkan tarif maksimum BBNKB sebesar 20 persen," ujarnya.
Kenaikkan tarif BBNKB juga diterapkan guna memberikan diskresi bagi pemprov yang sudah mengalami kemacetan. Sedangkan Pemda yang wilayahnya masih lengang kendaraan dapat menerapkan tarif BBNKB yang rendah.(dnl/dnl)

Use TeraCopy to Speed Up File Copying
One of the biggest complaints about Vista has always been the speed problems when copying files, especially large files over the network. If you want to dramatically speed up your file copying, then you want to take a look at TeraCopy.

Using TeraCopy
TeraCopy uses dynamically adjusted buffers to reduce seek time as well as asynchronous copy to speed up the transfer time.
For this example I am transferring one of my mp3 collections to my local C: drive from my external. The size of this folder is 56.1 GB and would take quite a while copying over by using the drag and drop method.
There are a couple ways to go about using TeraCopy. The first is to open the TeraCopy user interface and drag the files or folder you want to copy into TeraCopy. From there you can copy them over by clicking the Copy or Move button and selecting a location.
Another way to use TeraCopy is right click on the folder you want to transfer then select TeraCopy from the menu. This will open up the TeraCopy user interface and copy all files into the application.
You will see progress indicators in the user interface while the files are copying, and you can pause, resume, or cancel the process. In the instance of an error TeraCopy will only skip the file after trying several times to correct the issue. If nothing can be done, TeraCopy will only skip the file and not cancel the entire process. This is a huge advantage compared to relying on a Windows transfer.
Opening up the Options and Preferences you can integrate TeraCopy into the Windows and use it as the default copy handler.
Another cool thing to mention is that TeraCopy Portable is available and is compatible with PortableApps. TeraCopy completed the 56.1 GB file transfer in under an hour. While the transfer was being executed I noticed no lag time on any of the other things I was doing on my computer. It was as though it was not running at all.
I highly recommend using TeraCopy for large file transfers!

Need a desktop calendar to alert you on your wedding anniversary or to remember to buy your girl friend’s favorite LV leather bag? Running on the similar standard iCalendar format used by Google Calendar, Microsoft Outlook, Apple iCal, etc, Rainlendar is another feature rich calendar application which can run on windows (Windows 2000/XP/Vista), Mac OS X and Linux operating system. - It wasn’t possible to remove the category from a Google event. Fixed.

Kiat Menyiasati Kendala Regulasi
JAKARTA - Kendati dokter asing dilarang berpraktik di sini, tapi hal itu tak menghalangi para sinse dari China berkiprah di negeri ini. Nyatanya, keberadaan klinik tradisional asal "Negeri Leluhur" makin menjamur saja. Bagaimana kiatnya?
Tren pengobatan China di negeri ini cenderung makin marak. Selain populasi kliniknya terus meningkat, kita juga mulai akrab dengan sejumlah brand nan khas, seperti Tong Ren Tang, Chang Yen Chen, JiSheng Cancer Centre, Fu Shaw Tang, dan Matahari Traditional Chinese Medical Center. Semua itu, adalah nama-nama kondang rumah pengobatan tradisional asal "Negeri Leluhur" yang mulai meramaikan pasar di sini.
Menariknya pula, kalangan peminatnya makin meluas. Selain masyarakat Tionghoa, juga banyak kalangan eksekutif (non-keturunan) yang mulai meminati kehadiran mereka. Lihat saja sebarannya. Dulu, toko-toko obat China dan rumah sinse hanya ada di kawasan peChinan. Tapi kini, juga mulai jamak terlihat di kawasan bisnis modern. Di Jakarta misalnya, selain di kawasan Kota, klinik China juga bisa ditemui di Kelapa Gading, Kuningan, dan Menteng.
Klinik-klinik di kawasan elite itu, bisa dipastikan, menyasar segmen dari kalangan atas berduit. Terobosan tergolong berani. Maklum, berada di sana, juga berarti harus menghadapi kekuatan rumah sakit modern yang sudah lebih dulu mengakar dengan pasar di sini. Belum lagi harus bertempur dengan sesama klinik China lainnya.
Oleh sebab itu, sebagai pendatang baru, seyogianya mereka harus memiliki strategi tersendiri agar bisa diterima pasar. Di antaranya, gencar beriklan di berbagai media massa. Selain itu, kiat yang tengah dikembangkan oleh JiSheng Cancer Centre of Traditional Chinese Medicine Indonesia, patut disimak. Agar tak serta-merta tergusur oleh kekuatan rumah sakit modern, klinik yang bercokol di pusat bisnis Kelapa Gading, Jakarta Utara, ini memosisikan dirinya sebagai rumah pengobatan alternatif.
Upayanya itu, tampaknya berhasil. Sejak mulai beroperasi empat tahun lalu, menurut Hermanto Wijaya, Presiden Direktur JiSheng Cancer Centre, pihaknya memang banyak menangani pasien yang putus asa karena mengidap kanker dan tumor kritis. Uniknya, "Mereka datang ke klinik kami karena dirujuk oleh tim dokter yang pernah menanganinya," kata Hermanto. Kendati hanya sebagai "rumah" rujukan, setidaknya mereka bisa membuktikan bahwa metodenya tergolong manjur.
Sebenarnya pula, bila menilik "isi perutnya", semisal klinik tradisional sekaliber JiSheng, ternyata tak kuno-kuno amat. Lihat saja peralatan pengobatan yang ada di sana, bahkan tak kalah modern ketimbang peralatan medis yang dimiliki rumah sakit swasta paling mutakhir. Selain laboratorium dengan peralatan nan lengkap, klinik ini juga dilengkapi sejumlah peranti lain berteknologi canggih. Mulai dari unit USG, CT Scan, Sinar X, electronic chemistry therapy, hingga alat terapi yang memanfaatkan gelombang mikro dan sinar gamma.
Modalnya Relatif Tak Mahal
Untuk semua itu, menurut Hermanto, modalnya minimal Rp300 juta. Relatif tak mahal, lantaran sebagian besar peralatan diimpor dari China. Keuntungan lainnya, berkat bantuan berbagai teknologi itu, memungkinkan klinik ini seminimal mungkin melakukan tindakan pembedahan (operasi), metode yang sebenarnya paling didambakan banyak pasien.
Untuk menjalankan semua peralatan canggih itu, sudah barang tentu perlu dukungan tenaga ahli yang memadai. Tentunya pula, tim medik yang sudah teruji kepiawaiannya. "Di setiap klinik JiSheng, setidaknya ada tiga-empat dokter ahli pengobatan China, yang lazim disebut sinse," ujar Hermanto. Kebanyakan dari mereka memang tergolong sinse berpengalaman yang didatangkan langsung dari China. Agar pengobatannya optimal, "Setiap sinse dibatasi menangani paling banyak 15 pasien per hari," imbuhnya.
Membatasi kunjungan pasien bukan berarti menekan pendapatan. Sebagai penyeimbang, pengelola JiSheng menyiasatinya lewat kebijakan tarif. Nyatanya, ongkos berobat di klinik ini cukup tinggi, yakni hanya untuk sekali berkonsultasi atau terapi setiap pasiennya akan dikenakan minimal Rp500 ribu. Harga obat yang ditawarkannya pun terbilang mahal, sebutirnya ada yang dibanderol Rp50 ribu.
Dengan begitu, klinik ini tak membuka peluang bagi kalangan tak mampu? Tidak juga. Buat mereka, pengelola JiSheng memberlakukan kebijakan tersendiri, di antaranya tarif khusus yang bisa dijangkau.
Berkat berbagai kiat yang dijalankannya, bisa dibilang, perjalanan JiSheng di ranah Nusantara tergolong sukses. Malah mampu berkembang. Awalnya hanya di Surabaya, kini bertambah hingga 13 cabang yang berserak di sejumlah kota besar, antara lain, Makassar, Jakarta, Medan, Banten, Surakarta, Pontianak, dan Semarang. Pada Agustus nanti, rencananya klinik ke-15 yang di Bandung mulai dioperasikan.
Sebenarnya pula, memulai usaha klinik tradisional China di negeri ini, tidak semudah dibayangkan banyak kalangan. Kendala utamanya bermuara pada regulasinya. Salah satunya menyangkut izin bagi dokter asing, sampai saat ini pemerintah masih melarang mereka membuka praktik di sini. Kalaupun ada sejumlah dokter asing yang membuka praktik di sini, menurut Fachmi Idris, Ketua Umum Ikatan Dokter Indonesia (IDI), jelas itu ilegal. Karena itu, "Sudah seharusnya pemerintah menindak mereka dengan tegas," katanya.
Lalu, bagaimana pula halnya dengan para sinse dari China--notabene juga bisa digolongkan sebagai ahli medik alias dokter? Untuk menyiasati masalah ini, para pengelola JiSheng punya cara unik. Kiatnya, di antaranya, dengan menggandeng mitra dokter ahli dari Indonesia. Seperti klinik yang di Kelapa Gading, sebenarnya izin praktiknya atas nama dr Bertha Herlina, MD, tak lain pemilik Klinik ProVitalitas. Akan halnya para sinse yang ada di sana, sesungguhnya bukan dokter, melainkan konsultan kesehatan.
Strategi yang agak berbeda diterapkan oleh Tong Ren Tang. Untuk memudahkan penetrasi pasarnya, klinik pengobatan China yang berdomisili di kawasan Menteng, Jakarta Pusat, ini cenderung lebih mengandalkan nama besar brand-nya. Menurut Zhu Yu, Business Development Manager Tong Ren Tang, metode pengobatan yang berhasil dikembangkan di klinik ini sudah dikenal sejak ratusan tahun lalu. Di negara asalnya, Tong Ren Tang yang telah berdiri sejak 1669, kesohor sebagai rumah obat kepercayaan Kaisar Yongzheng (Dinasti Qing). Sampai saat ini, Tong Ren Tang telah merebak di 20 negara, di antaranya di Indonesia (sejak Juni 2004).
Metode pengobatannya, sebenarnya, tak ubahnya dengan model ala Barat. Setiap pasiennya akan didiagnosis terlebih dahulu. Setelah itu, terapi baru dilakukan, di antaranya dengan cara akupunktur atau tuina (pijat untuk pengobatan) serta pengobatan berdasarkan resep.
Kalangan peminatnya tergolong beragam, alias tak hanya dari warga keturunan. Mereka, kata Zhu, umumnya para pengidap stroke, infertility (mandul), kista, tumor, gangguan pada ginjal, dan diabetes. Dalam sehari, klinik ini melayani rata-rata 30 pasien. Bila mereka berminat, lantaran tarif berobatnya cukup bersaing. Untuk sekali datang, setiap pasiennya Rp360 ribu.
Memberi Hadiah, tapi Mendapat Untung dari Penjualan Hadiah
DULU cukup banyak orang yang bertanya kepada saya seperti ini, "Pak, saya ingin meningkatkan pemasaran dengan memberikan hadiah kepada konsumen. Namun saya takut bagaimana kalau saya malah rugi nantinya?"
Mereka bertanya seperti itu karena belum tahu caranya. Jika Anda belum mengetahui cara yang efektif, memberikan hadiah bisa jadi akan merugikan usaha Anda.
Karena itu belajarlah dengan apa yang telah saya praktikkan sendiri dan saya tulis dalam buku Marketing Revolution saya. Karena dengan belajar cara yang tepat, kita bisa tetap memberi hadiah tanpa mengurangi margin, malah mendapat untung dari penjualan hadiah.
Adapun cara yang bisa dilakukan di antaranya sebagai berikut. Carilah hadiah yang mahal/kesannya mahal. Kalau bisa eksklusif dan orang lain tidak mempunyainya. Kemudian diberi syarat, untuk pembelian dalam jumlah tertentu, pembeli boleh membeli hadiah dengan harga murah. (Harga ini lebih murah dari harga normal,tetapi tetap lebih tinggi dari harga beli). Diberi batas waktu.
Contoh:
Kita memberi hadiah malah bisa lebih untung karena hadiah dijual. Contoh: Dulu adik saya waktu SMA jual kaus untuk promosi ke toko-toko emas, banyak yang menolak. Karena margin emas tipis.
Kemudian cara pemasarannya diperbaiki sehingga, kalau beli 10 gram,dapat kaus gratis, tapi bila lima gram bisa dapat kaus gratis cukup bayar Rp2.000 (karena harga kaus jenis tersebut di pasaran saat itu Rp4.000). Saat itu harga kausnya, karena beli di grosir dari pabriknya bisa dapat @ Rp1.700. Satu toko menyambut ide ini.
Akhirnya toko-toko lain ikut pesan kaus dan ramai-ramai dapat untung triple: (1) dari emasnya, (2) dari hadiah kausnya, dan (3) dari pemakaian kaus tersebut karena ketika dipakai, kaus tersebut mempromosikan tokonya. (Jadi, apa yang terjadi ketika orang beli lima gram emas dan menambah Rp2.000 untuk mendapatkan kaosnya? Karena kausnya @ Rp1.700, yang memberi hadiah malah untung Rp300.
Contoh lain:
Pompa bensin Shell pernah memberi program berikut ini. "Bagi setiap pembelian 20 liter boleh membeli mobil-mobilan Ferrari yang terdiri atas 6 varian @ Rp29.500." Tahukah Anda,walaupun mainan mobil Ferrari ini resmi berlogo Ferrari, ternyata made in China.
Apakah berdasarkan ongkos produksi mobil-mobilan ini yang ternyata dari plastik, tapi tetap menarik. Buktinya saya koleksi banyak, berharga lebih dari Rp29.500? Saya yakin tidak. Karena waktu saya di China, mereka bisa menjual bolpoin Mount Blanc aspal (asli tapi palsu) dengan harga setelah dikurskan ke rupiah Rp8.000.
Lantas, karena ada pembatasan sampai tanggal tertentu hadiah mobil-mobilan Ferrari tidak boleh dibeli lagi, berbondongbondong orang membelinya. Sudah bensin semakin laris, untung dobel lagi. Isi bensin untung, jual hadiah juga untung. Anda juga bisa mempraktikkannya sesuai dengan bisnis yang Anda jalankan. Namun, harus terus diukur dan dimonitor serta dikembangkan agar lebih efektif. (*)

Google Blog has officially announced the Google Chrome yesterday, with link to a comic book to introduce Google Chrome (kind of teaser trailer). Luckily, users do not need to wait too long for the final (ops, it’s actually beta, as with most initial product launches by Google). Google is officially releasing Google Chrome Beta for free download by everybody. The news has also been announced on Google Blog.
