Yahoo! today introduced Yahoo! Messenger 9 and a new service called Pingbox which is like a live chat box (in the form of a Flash Widget) that you may embed in any website or blog including your MySpace page.
Like the Google Talk badge, site visitors can send your private messages via the Pingbox chat box without requiring any IM client.
There are however some differences and the most noticeable one is that Yahoo! Pingbox embed inline in your website while Google Talk opens a pop-up window. The downside of Yahoo’s approach is that it extend the loading time of web pages because the widget will always download with the page.
Another difference is that you can customize the look-n-feel of your Yahoo! Pingbox through the dozen or so themes available in the Pingbox studio.
Thge Pingbox widget on the site will reflect the current status of your Yahoo! Messenger and will automatically become unavailable when you go offline or set your status as ‘invisible.’

6. Lengkapilah laptop Anda dengan anti-virus versi terbaru sebelum Anda meninggalkan rumah. Tempat umum ( bandara, hotel, cafe) biasanya tidak memberi sandi khusus pada sambungan internetnya, sehingga laptop Anda dapat sangat mudah terkena virus.
7. Agar aman, bawa juga CD software yang sering Anda gunakan, sehingga apabila software tersebut terkunci, Anda dapat menginstall ulang software tersebut lengkap dengan nomer registrasi yang asli.

Windows 7, the next version of Windows after Vista, will be releasing its new beta version in mid December 2008. This has sparked off dicussions among current Windows users of whether Windows 7 will emereged as a better player as compared to Vista.

Bea Balik Nama Kendaraan Naik Jadi 20%
Jakarta - Pemerintah dan DPR sepakat untuk menaikkan tarif maksimal Bea Balik Nama Kendaraan Bermotor (BBNKB) menjadi 20% di dalam RUU Pajak Daerah dan Retribusi Daerah (PDRD). Kebijakan ini dilakukan untuk menjadi instrumen fiskal untuk membatasi jumlah kendaraan bermotor.
Hal tersebut dikatakan oleh Ketua Pansus RUU Pajak Daerah dan Retribusi Daerah (PDRD) Harry Azhar Azis ketika dihubungi wartawan, di Jakarta, Jumat (19/9/2008).
"Tarif maksimal BBNKB naik dari tarif saat ini sebesar 10% menjadi 20% dari harga jual kendaraan bermotor untuk pembelian pertama kali. Sementara tarif BBNKB untuk mobil bekas hanya dikenakan tarif sebesar 1% dari harga jual kendaraan bermotor," tuturnya.
Meski demikian, Harry mengatakan karena BBNKB merupakan wilayah pajak daerah, maka besaran BBNKB di tiap daerah akan tergantung dari peraturan derah (perda) masing-masing.
"Pemda diberi kewenangan untuk penetapan tarif BBNKB antara 0% sampai maksimal 20% tergantung kepadatan kendaraan bermotor di daerahnya. Dan dengan demikian, tarif BBNKB di tiap daerah bisa berbeda-beda," jelasnya.
Harry mengatakan pajak provinsi BBNKB ditetapkan dengan pola tarif tunggal maksimal 20 persen untuk penyerahan pertama dan 1 persen untuk penyerahan berikutnya. "Jadi kalau saya beli mobil baru Rp 100 juta,jadi Rp 120 juta ditambah BBNKB,'' ujarnya.
Diakuinya, kebijakan baru ini dapat mengakibatkan penjualan mobil bekas bisa lebih marak dibanding mobil baru, sehingga pada gilirannya menghambat pertumbuhan jumlah kendaraan bermotor, terutama di kota-kota besar seperti Jakarta.
"Kalau Jakarta, jika ingin menekan penjualan kendaraan supayakemacetan bisa berkurang, pemda DKI Jakarta bisa menerapkan tarif maksimum BBNKB sebesar 20 persen," ujarnya.
Kenaikkan tarif BBNKB juga diterapkan guna memberikan diskresi bagi pemprov yang sudah mengalami kemacetan. Sedangkan Pemda yang wilayahnya masih lengang kendaraan dapat menerapkan tarif BBNKB yang rendah.(dnl/dnl)

Use TeraCopy to Speed Up File Copying
One of the biggest complaints about Vista has always been the speed problems when copying files, especially large files over the network. If you want to dramatically speed up your file copying, then you want to take a look at TeraCopy.

Using TeraCopy
TeraCopy uses dynamically adjusted buffers to reduce seek time as well as asynchronous copy to speed up the transfer time.
For this example I am transferring one of my mp3 collections to my local C: drive from my external. The size of this folder is 56.1 GB and would take quite a while copying over by using the drag and drop method.
There are a couple ways to go about using TeraCopy. The first is to open the TeraCopy user interface and drag the files or folder you want to copy into TeraCopy. From there you can copy them over by clicking the Copy or Move button and selecting a location.
Another way to use TeraCopy is right click on the folder you want to transfer then select TeraCopy from the menu. This will open up the TeraCopy user interface and copy all files into the application.
You will see progress indicators in the user interface while the files are copying, and you can pause, resume, or cancel the process. In the instance of an error TeraCopy will only skip the file after trying several times to correct the issue. If nothing can be done, TeraCopy will only skip the file and not cancel the entire process. This is a huge advantage compared to relying on a Windows transfer.
Opening up the Options and Preferences you can integrate TeraCopy into the Windows and use it as the default copy handler.
Another cool thing to mention is that TeraCopy Portable is available and is compatible with PortableApps. TeraCopy completed the 56.1 GB file transfer in under an hour. While the transfer was being executed I noticed no lag time on any of the other things I was doing on my computer. It was as though it was not running at all.
I highly recommend using TeraCopy for large file transfers!
